James Beard Foundation Award
We are thrilled to announce that Stephen Stryjewski, chef/partner of Cochon, was named Best Chef: South at the 2011 James Beard Foundation Awards in New York City on Monday night. Known as the nation’s top honors for culinary professionals, the James Beard Awards have been known to put a chef and his/her restaurant on the map. This was Stryjewski’s first personal nomination; Cochon was nominated for Best New Restaurant in 2007.
He expressed his gratitude to the Foundation and thanked partner and mentor Chef Donald Link. “We set out to bring authentic Cajun food to New Orleans and I am so proud of what we created,” stated Stryjewski. “I am surrounded by an incredible team, and it goes without saying that they have a huge hand in this award. "I feel privileged to bring this award back home to New Orleans.” Stryjewski was nominated alongside other Best Chef: South nominees: Zach Bell, Café Boulud, Palm Beach, FL; John Harris, Lilette, New Orleans; Chris Hastings, Hot and Hot Fish Club, Birmingham, AL; and Tory McPhail, Commander's Palace.
