OR Laura Plantation |
Your choice of Oak Alley or Laura Plantation. Take a break from the city and enjoy a relaxing ride up the river road of the Mighty Mississippi to plantation country. Our scenic route will take you past Evergreen, Whitney, Felicite, St. joseph, Laura, and Oak Alley. Tour the interior and grounds of your choice of Oak Alley or Laura. Oak Alley is the grandest of all the plantations. A stately "American" style home, restored to its original grandeur. It has been open for tour the longest and has appeared in many films and tv shows. After the home tour, try a mint julep and stroll under the canopy of moss-covered Live Oak trees. They have an extensive gift shop and a quick-service cafe for a light lunch. Laura is an earlier "Creole" style home dating back to 1805, the oldest in the area. Although it was opened for tourism rather recently and endured damage from a fire, it has quickly earned the reputation as "the best history tour in the US." With many original furnishings and slave cabins, the birthplace of "B'rer Rabbit" has a fascinating story drawn from the recovered memoires of Laura herself, the matriarch of the many women who ran this plantation. A unique and insightful look into French Creole Louisiana. |
