Some
of the best known names in food and wine have teamed
up to host a
“Community Service Day”
of waitstaff
training
in conjunction with the
New Orleans Wine & Food
Experience
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DATE: May 16, 2006
American Express,
Nestle, and Gallo Family Vineyards are hosting classes
to help train new food service workers as the New
Orleans hospitality industry regains
its footing after the damage wrought by hurricanes last
year. The training seminars will be held from 1:30 PM to
3:30 PM on Friday, May 26, 2006 at the Esplanade Room of the
Omni Royal Orleans Hotel on Royal
Street.
Social and economic
dislocations resulting from storm damage forced many experienced
workers out of the community. The workforce is being re-established,
providing many new jobs, but there is a need for professional
training for those wishing to enter the hospitality industry.
Participants in
the “Community Service Day” will learn the
basics of wine selection and service, how to suggest pairings
of wine and food, and other basic skills needed to get
and keep jobs in the hospitality industry.
Rick Gratia, president
of NOWFE, says, “Hospitality is at the heart of the
reconstruction of New
Orleans. It is very gratifying to
have these internationally renowned companies coming here
to help set us back up on our feet again. Hospitality is
alive and well in New
Orleans, and thanks to these companies,
we are coming back better than ever.”
Seating
for 100 guests will be filled on a first come first serve
basis.
